Can I Just Paint My Rusty Window Wells?

Your window wells are rusting because of electrolysis, so painting them will not help. The rust will push right through the paint (even rust-oleum) and begin to discolor and peel very quickly. We’ve seen many wells completely fail where the homeowner tried to paint over the rust. The only solution is to install a new well that does not connect to the rebar or other metal that causes the electrolysis. If your window wells are not rusting, it is fine to paint them.
